A one-time injection of funds for construction guarantees that these homes will be available in perpetuity for successive generations of Chaffee County residents. Once built, these homes will not require further subsidy or support as the Community Land Trust model maintains the community’s equity while providing homeowners a fair share of appreciation. Whenever they choose to sell, it sets them up to move on to the private market upon the sale of the shared-equity home. The next family can then afford to buy in at a price affordable to their income without an additional subsidy because the land lease maintains affordability.
